Self-development and self-improvement are crucial aspects of Islam. As Muslims, we must increase our religious knowledge and display our values to achieve eternal happiness in this world and the Hereafter.

Allah s.w.t. says in the Quran:
“Indeed, Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state ˹of faith˺.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)
Therefore, Ramadan is the prime time for Muslims to strive for change and an increased spiritual connection with Allah s.w.t. Also, Allah s.w.t has promised rewards and forgiveness to those who strive to perform worship in this holy month.

Free Fiqh Ramadan class
To help the Singapore Muslim community to prepare for the month of Ramadan, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has launched its latest initiative, a self-paced online class for the Fiqh Ramadan module under the Adult Islamic Learning (ADIL) programme.
This free Fiqh Ramadan module is designed to guide learners with a complete overview of Ramadan, from its significance and benefits to the deeds and practices during the holy month.
Ustaz Md Zulkarnain Bin Azman, a Senior Executive at the Youth and Community Education Unit, Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis), recommends that Muslim adults participate in this Fiqh Ramadan module to “deepen their religious knowledge and increase their faith in Allah s.w.t.”
He added: “Ultimately, the module will help to prepare learners – both physically and spiritually – so that they can better understand the essence of the blessed month and perform their worship.”
Ustaz Md Zulkarnain added that the Fiqh Ramadan module was exclusively designed as a self-paced learning format.
"Throughout running the ADIL programme, we have constantly been improving it based on feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders, such as learners and trainers. One feedback that always comes out on top is the demand for asynchronous learning. Learners nowadays are busy and have little to no time to equip themselves with religious knowledge.”
The module is in English and will benefit segments of our community who find it difficult to attend classes physically, such as blue-collar workers and homemakers. Learners can learn the module at their own pace and from the comfort of their homes.
Physical check-ins are available at two mosques for learners with questions or guidance related to the module. Masjid Al-Mukminin in the west and Masjid Al-Islah in the east will provide guidance to learners who require it.
"This transformation of digital education has also become a new norm after the Covid-19 pandemic as well as a paradigm shift that will open the eyes and minds of learners towards the appreciation of religious education. Conclusively, this will aid ADIL in reaching out to more members of the Muslim community, so that they could benefit from it," concluded Ustaz Md Zulkarnain.
